The pushback against redefining marriage continues on both sides of the Atlantic.
In America this week, the Southern Baptist Convention – the largest Protestant denomination in the US – adopted a bold resolution reaffirming its commitment to real marriage, explicitly calling for the Supreme Court’s controversial 2015 ruling legalising same-sex marriage to be overturned.
Titled ‘On Restoring Moral Clarity through God’s Design for Gender, Marriage and the Family’, the resolution advocates for overturning laws, including Obergefell v. Hodges, that oppose traditional family values. It urges support for laws that affirm marriage exclusively between one man and one woman, recognise the biological reality of male and female, protect children’s innocence, uphold parental rights, incentivise family formation, and ensure fairness in sport.
This strong stance is part of a broader American revolt against the LGBT agenda, as popular support for same-sex marriage has recently dropped to barely above 50%. Additionally, lawmakers in nine states have already taken legislative steps to affirm and restore man-woman marriage, anticipating a future overturning of the Supreme Court’s ruling.
The growing backlash against ‘woke’ excesses has crossed the Atlantic. Here in the UK, Staffordshire County Council has refused to use public funds for this summer’s Pride event. Council leader Ian Cooper clarified: “We’re not against Pride... However, we are not going to spend taxpayers’ money funding that.” Will other cash-strapped councils follow suit?
Meanwhile, we celebrate Kristie Higgs’ remarkable victory after a seven-year legal battle defending her right to question extreme Relationships and Sex Education material in her son’s primary school. Kristie was disgracefully sacked from her pastoral role at another primary school merely for highlighting her concerns on social media. This week, her legal fight ended triumphantly when the Supreme Court refused any further appeal. Despite facing substantial obstacles – including judicial panel members stepping aside after being exposed as LGBT activists – Kristie’s win is a landmark victory for defenders of traditional family values.
Over the last two decades, politicians and judges have believed they could redefine marriage, but marriage – between one man and one woman – is rooted in nature itself. It is the unique union able to welcome new human life, providing the stability and nurturing environment children need, benefiting both men and women, and strengthening society. Laws may come and go, but the truth about real marriage remains.
C4M and fellow marriage supporters worldwide won’t rest until this timeless truth is once again reflected in our laws and government policies.
