Same-sex marriage struck down in Lithuania

Plans to re-define marriage have been rejected in Lithuania. Politicians in the Lithuanian parliament struck down plans to introduce same-sex marriage by 59 votes to 29, with 20 abstentions. Vytautas Sinica, a political scientist at the country’s largest university, Vilnius University, said: “According to polls, more than 80 percent of Lithuanians are clearly against any form of same-sex partnership”. He described the vote as a "landslide decision" and an "inspiring turn of events for the traditional voters in Lithuania”.
