New Pope – Old Marriage – Great News!

The new Pope has made headlines worldwide by reaffirming that marriage is between one man and one woman.
In his inaugural address, Pope Leo XIV clearly stated that the family is “founded upon the stable union between a man and a woman”. The Independent highlighted his words, noting they were a “clear articulation of core Catholic teachings on marriage”. Conversely, PinkNews criticised his remarks as an affirmation of “opposition to gay marriage”.
This strong pronouncement from the Pope comes at a time when the very definition of marriage faces constant pressure and redefinition attempts from various groups and governments around the globe.
Pope Leo’s remarks underline the global recognition of marriage as something uniquely valuable and worth defending. He also said that governments should invest in promoting the family.
While Coalition for Marriage is non-denominational, representing supporters from all faiths and none, we congratulate Roman Catholics on receiving such clear and courageous leadership on this fundamental issue. It is deeply encouraging when influential world leaders publicly uphold the traditional, natural definition of marriage.
The new Pope’s message is a powerful reminder that marriage between one man and one woman is the proven stabilising bedrock of society. All the evidence points to strong marriages creating strong families, strong communities and, ultimately, strong nations.
