FIRED BY CATHOLIC SCHOOL FOR SUPPORTING CATHOLIC MARRIAGE!

Mar 1, 2025

Yet again, a Christian school has fired a member of staff for expressing Christian beliefs about marriage—you couldn’t make it up!

Gozen Soydag, a dedicated mentor and pastoral leader, tells me about the ongoing challenges she faces for simply upholding the true definition of marriage. Dismissed from her role at a Catholic school for running an online ministry, ‘Wife in the Waiting’, which encourages women to prepare for marriage, Gozen’s case underlines the blatant hostility towards advocating for marriage between a man and a woman. Watch the full interview here.

Gozen’s journey into education began as a volunteer working with at-risk youth. Her commitment led her to a full-time pastoral role at a Catholic school, where she mentored students, safeguarded their wellbeing, and provided moral guidance. However, five months into the role, her personal social media account became a point of contention. A post Gozen shared discussing service within marriage, which posed the question “What are you willing to do to be the wife that you say you want to be?”, was flagged as inappropriate.

The school demanded she take down the post, but the issue escalated. Gozen was dismissed, with her beliefs labelled as “18th-century teaching” and deemed incompatible with the school’s ethos. Ironically, as she pointed out, “This is a Catholic school. Shouldn’t you be in line with a woman who knows her worth and value?” The decision to remove her came despite no evidence that she had imposed her views on students or acted outside the school’s stated values.

At tribunal, Gozen’s claim for wrongful dismissal was rejected. The judge ruled that students from different backgrounds could feel “devalued” by her views, a decision that exposes the growing double standard in public discourse. As Gozen highlights, it is acceptable in schools to discuss multiple sexual identities, but speaking positively about marriage is a ‘safeguarding risk’.

She is now in the process of appealing against this absurd ruling and is being supported throughout by the Christian Legal Centre.

Her case is not just about employment but about the suppression of truth. We discuss the fact that marriage is good for society. It leads to longer lives, better health, greater stability, and happier families. Yet those advocating these facts are increasingly silenced. Gozen warns that the reluctance to discuss stable, lifelong commitment leaves young people directionless. “We have the most amount of loneliness now today than we ever had in any generation before. And I believe, the stronger the nuclear family… the stronger our communities”.

You can see why C4M must remain committed to standing for marriage as the foundation of a thriving society. Gozen’s story is a reminder of the growing challenges, but also of the need for courage. If those who value real marriage do not speak, future generations may never hear the truth. Watch the full interview – and share it with those who need to hear it.
